The problem with a lot of foldable phones compared to more traditional smartphones is its durability. It has a hinge and a soft, flexible display, making it more susceptible to wear and tear versus non-foldables. These issues were pretty clear when the first Samsung Galaxy Z Fold was launched.
If you’re looking for a foldable that is also durable, the OnePlus Open could be it. In a new durability test conducted by JerryRigEverything, the handset was put through the ringer and it seems to have passed with flying colors.
The test involved things like tossing dirt on the display, slamming the phone’s display open and shut, and while it is a bit heart wrenching to see a phone being put through its paces, it managed to hold up pretty well. In fact, at one part of the test, the YouTuber tried folding the OnePlus open past its normal angle and it still survived!
While we wouldn’t necessarily advise you to try it out for yourself, the takeaway here is that in the event something does happen that might force the phone to bend beyond its limit, know that the OnePlus Open has the ability to survive where its competitors might not.
