Mobvoi recently announced that it was finally pushing forward with the rollout of the much-anticipated Wear OS 3 update for several devices, which include earlier models such as the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS, TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, TicWatch E3, TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra and TicWatch Pro 3 LTE.
A few months back, there were questions regarding the delayed Wear OS 3 update for the devices, with Mobvoi stating that the updateโs โintricate natureโ required its engineering team to develop a new architecture altogether in order to adapt to the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 Platform and Mobvoiโs coprocessor. Robert Zhang, Vice President of Engineering at Mobvoi states:
โOur TicWatch leverages the cutting-edge SDW4100 chipset and a proprietary dual system architecture developed by Mobvoi. This distinctive combination requires extensive architectural enhancements and performance debugging when transitioning to Wear OS 3, ensuring the delivery of the utmost software quality and user experience.โ
โWe appreciate our dedicated users who have been vocal about their excitement in anticipation of this update knowing itโs taken longer than expected. Our dedicated team worked tirelessly to make this update a reality, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional products and experiences.โ
Mobvoi states that the Wear OS 3 update for its TicWatch models comes with streamlined navigation, improved applications and services, as well as updated security. Users will have access to features available on watches powered with Wear OS 3 or later after completing the update.
Additionally, updated TicWatch models will remain compatible with iOS devices, and updated watches will no longer be set up using the โWear OS by Googleโ companion app. Android users will interface through the Mobvoi Health app, while iOS users will use the Health CoPilot app.
