[ad_1]

Samsung Galaxy S24 release date: When can you buy one?

For the past few years, Samsung has consistently unveiled new Galaxy S devices at its Unpacked event every February. However, this year they confirmed the event will happen at an earlier date. Samsung has scheduled to host the Unpacked on January 17, 2024, at 1:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM CET.

Regarding the venue, it is also penned the gather is taking place at SAP Center in San Jose, California. It will be a significant venue as the likes of Apple and Google are headquartered nearby. Subsequently,ย it could help bolster Samsung’s presence in the USA. And if you’re tuning from home, Samsung planned to stream the event online though its website and YouTube channel.

There are no official details for the actual sales date or availability.ย However, it was tipped last year that pre-orders will begin right after the event, while the first shipments are to start to arrive by January 26th. Additionally, the actual sales are set to begin on January 30th.

There may be surprises on the software side, as Samsung is expected to follow Google by debuting the Galaxy S24 as the first non-Pixel smartphone to come with up to 7 years of software updates. Meaning, the trio may get supported all the way to Android 21 since they’re running on Android 14 out of the box.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Price

Whether the Samsung Galaxy S24 will carry a different price tag at launch remains unconfirmed. Furthermore, current predictions suggest that pricing for the threeย Galaxy S24 models will not change, at least in the USA.ย Thisย gives the company to undercut many of their competitors, especially that the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra are said to feature larger RAM and storage configuration on their base model.

As such, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are expected to retail starting at $799 and $999, respectively, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra could maintain its base model price of $1199.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Design and build quality

As Samsung continues to unify the design of its smartphones and tablets in 2024, the Galaxy S24 is shaping up to feature refinements on the exterior, especially on the rear panel. Third-party renders from OnLeaks suggest flat sides for the Galaxy trio, deviating from the rounded sides of the Galaxy S23.

For the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung is rumored to be considering a titanium frame, similar to what’s expected for the iPhone 15 Pro (review), in place of the aluminum alloy. The new material is lighter and more resistant to damage. The reduced weight could allow the company to add more components and make the device easier to handle than its predecessor.

Recent pictured dummy unitsย and real-life photos support these exterior iterations on the Galaxy S24 (Ultra). The standard models have a flatter and smoother frame while the Galaxy S24 Ultra becomes boxier with a flat rear panel, so gone are the slightly sloping side edges.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Display

The standard Galaxy S models have traditionally been equipped with less capable AMOLED LTPS screens, offering limited refresh rate options compared to the Ultra’s LTPO technology. Leaks suggest that the Galaxy S24 (Plus) will finally make the switch to an LTPO panel, potentially allowing for a wider range of refresh rates from 1 to 120 Hz.

Furthermore, the new screens are rumored to feature higher peak brightness levels, reaching up to 2,500 nits, in contrast to the Galaxy S23 series, which peaked at 1,750 nits. This enhancement would greatly improve screen visibility outdoors, even in bright sunlight.

A leaked documentation also recommends the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra are getting 12 percent faster display touch response rate. This means they would be more suitable for gaming as the delay between touch inputs and feedbacks is reduced.

As for screen size, the standard and Plus models are expected to retain their 6.1-inch and 6.6-inch displays, respectively. No changes in screen size are anticipated for the Galaxy S24 Ultra either.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Camera

Earlier, there was speculation that the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ might feature a 200 MP sensor carried over from this year’s Ultra model. However, as we approach the launch window, no additional details have emerged to support this possibility. Therefore, it seems more likely that the two standard models will retain the camera specifications of their predecessors, but will getย better image processing through Android 14 and new chipset.

On the other hand, Samsung has announced the new 50 MP ISOCELL GNK sensor, which is expected to be used in the upcoming Galaxy S24. The sensor boasts improved low-light capabilities and HDR support with up to 120 dB dynamic range. It also features faster autofocus and the ability to record 8K videos.

With its premium standing, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to retain its high-end camera features. Leaker Ice Universe has suggested that the device’s main camera will be upgraded to a new 200 MP ISOCELL sensor. The periscope camera may also see an adjustment, moving to a 5x optical zoom with a new 50 MP telephoto sensor that can outmatch its competitors in low light zoom shooting,ย a change from the previous 10 MP sensor with 10x zoom.

There is also a more recent report that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be the first to feature 4K video recording at 120 fpsย and 8K video at 5x optical zoom. It will finally match most of Sony’s flagship Xperia 1 camera phones in resolution and frame rate. Even so, it indicates this is only present on the Ultra and not on the standard models.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Performance

It is well-knownย that the Galaxy S24 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Similar to the Galaxy S23, Samsung may continue to market the new chip under the ‘For Galaxy’ branding, which would indicate a slightly higher clock speed than the standard version.

What remains uncertain is whether all three models will use the same chip, following reports that some regions may receive the Galaxy S24 (Plus) with Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2400 SoC. However, it’s expected that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will exclusively feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, regardless of the region.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to deliver significant improvements in graphics and processing power. Beyond these gains, it is anticipated to offer greater power efficiency and advancements in AI computing and image processing capabilities.

However, it also appears the Exynos 2400 won’t be a slouch. Recent benchmark results the performance gap in processingย has shrunken, giving the 10-core CPU on the Exynos a near comparable speed as the 8-core CPU of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Additionally, the Galaxy S24 is slated to introduce conversational AI capabilities that could allow for more complex voice assistant commands and more sophisticated functionalities, such as Generative Editing and Nightography Zoom. It has also seen that these features will be integrated into the models equipped with the Exynos chipset.

As for the memory, Samsung might equip the Galaxy S24 with the new type of RAM called Low Latency Wide IO or LLW DRAM. The new unit should optimize the AI processing and gaming on the device, resulting in real-time output. Plus, there is a report that mentioned of the base models of the three models getting 8 GB of RAM, which is quite middling in 2023.

A more recent leak has also uncovered that the entire Galaxy S24 line will feature bigger cooling chambers than their predecessors. The increased area would support the new processors with higher clock speed. At the same time, theย larger thermal systems could keep the handsets from overheating when doing intensive tasks like gaming.ย

Samsung Galaxy S24: Battery and charging

If youโ€™re particularly eager for longer battery life in Samsungโ€™s next flagships, you might get your wish with the larger battery capacities rumored for the Galaxy S24 series.

Independent listings suggest that the two standard models will benefit from increased battery sizes. Notably, the smaller Galaxy S24 is expected to feature a 4,000 mAh typical battery capacity, according to a certification reported by Galaxy Club. While only a modest increase of 100 mAh, this could still translate to a few extra hours of runtime, especially when combined with an efficient processor.

The Galaxy S24+ is anticipated to boast a 4,900 mAh battery, which is a 200 mAh improvement over its direct predecessor. There appears to be no change in battery capacity for the Galaxy S24 Ultra; it is likely to maintain the 5,000 mAh battery. Charging speeds are expected to remain the same as well, with the Ultra supporting 45-watt charging and the non-Ultra models at 25 watts.

That sums up all the information we have at the moment. Share with us in the comments below what you find most thrilling about the new generation of the Galaxy S series so far.
