Netflix Doesn’t See the Vision Pro as a Priority for Now

The launch of Apple’s first-ever AR headset has certainly been an interesting sight to watch unfold. The Cupertino company’s much-hyped take on AR and spatial computing has been a hot topic of discussion, garnering a considerable amount of praise as well as its fair share of criticism.

With regards to the latter, most discussions seem to revolve around the Vision Pro’s rather expensive price tag, and as of late the somewhat lessened app support from major developers and brands. One of these is Netflix – the major content streaming platform will apparently skip out on launching an app for the Vision Pro.

According to Netflix Co-CEO Greg Peters, the company’s decision to refrain from developing a specialized Vision Pro app is more of a resource issue. In a recent podcast interview, Peters states:

“We have to be careful about making sure that we’re not investing in places that are not really yielding a return… I would say we’ll see where things go with Vision Pro.”

In a way, Netflix could be playing it safe with regards to widespread consumer adoption of the Vision Pro – after all, dedicating time and effort towards software that would only be accessible to a considerably small user base does call for some consideration.

On one hand, Vision Pro users will still be able to access their Netflix account and library by way of the headset’s built-in web browser. This method might be a necessary one as other major content platforms such as Spotify and YouTube won’t be natively available on Apple’s premium headset as well.
