Would you like a Transparent Website Layout? It can be very useful if you would like to have a different theme for your website, but do not want to change too much of the design. Simply changing the background image can also give you a whole different feeling sometimes. We are going to teach you how to design a transparent website layout in Photoshop. Hope you would find it useful.

Final Result

A Transparent Website Layout is what we are about to make. You can click on the image to see a full-scale version.

Background

Step 1
Lets start off by creating a new document 2000×2000px.

Step 2
Using the marquee tool, create a box 500px wide by 1500px tall. Fill with black

Step 3
Go to Edit>Define Brush Preset. Change the name to “Square Brush” and press ok. Now we should have our brush in with the rest of the brushes.

Step 4
Close out of the 2000×2000px document, because we are done with that one. Now open a new document 1200×1200px and fill with black.

Step 5
Create a new layer (Control + Shift + N) and fill it with black also.

Go into Filter>Render>Fibers. Adjust the settings like I have to get a real good contrast.

Step 6
Now Go into Filter>Blur>Motion Blur and adjust the settings to 999px.

Using the transform tool (Control + T), hold down shift and rotate to the left one spot. Stretch out the fibers so that it covers the entire area.

Step 7
Open up the Levels (Control + L) and adjust them as I have. This is going to darken our fibers.

Step 8
Change the blend mode of the fibers layer to Color Dodge.

Now select the brush we made, then push F5 to open up our brush settings.

Change the settings as I have them.

Step 9
Create a new layer (Control + Shift + N), and move it under the fibers layer.

Pick a blue color and paint a little area with our brush. Since we changed our brush settings, the brush we made should be scattered something like what I have.

Step 10
Go to Filter>Blur>Motion Blur with the distance at 999 px.

Step 11
Repeat steps 9 and 10 with different variations of blue, creating a new layer for each color, until you get something you like.

Step 12
Create a new layer just under the fiber layer. Click on the gradient and choose the Reflected Gradient tool. Make sure the color is white to nothing.

Click and drag a gradient in the middle of the document, following the line of the fibers.

Change the Blend Mode to Overlay, and drop the opacity down to 60%. This will give us a light source in the middle of the document.

This is the finished product of our background. Now we are going to get started on putting together the actual website.

Website

Step 13
Before we get any further I am going to take all of the layers from my background and put them into a folder to keep it organized.

Click on the background layer, then click and drag a guide out to the middle of the document. The guide should snap into place at the middle. If it doesn’t go to View and make sure Snap is checked.

Using the Marquee Tool create a box 960×1200px. We are going to move it over using the transform tool (Control + T) to get the anchor points on the corners and the middle of the box. Line up the middle anchor points with the middle guide. Put a guide on each side of the box.

Step 14
Using the marquee tool create a box 375×60px and rest the right side of it on the right guide and the top on the top of the document. Hold down shift and move it down six times. Put guides on the top, bottom and left sides.

Using the Rounded Rectangle Tool, create a box inside the guides, with a radius of 10px.

We are going to add some layer styles to the box, so go into the first icon at the bottom of the layers palette, and click on Inner Glow. Change the settings as I have them with a color of #666666, then click on Stroke with a color of #000000.

Step 15
Click on the marquee tool. Now Control and click on the shape we just made. Hold down shift and move the shape up three spaces. Using a linear gradient fill the area with white. Drop the opacity down to 60%.

Step 16
Create a new layer and change the foreground color to #3399FF. Control + click on the box. Now, using the linear gradient again, create a blue gradient at the top of the box.

Step 17
Do Control + Shift + I to get the inverse selection, then select the white gradient layer and delete. This will get rid of the extra part that we don’t need.

Step 18
Using Myriad Pro Black at 16 pt type out your navigation in white.

Using the square marquee tool click and drag a box 1px wide and the height of the box. Fill it with #333333. Move the marquee over one spot and fill it with #000000.

Step 19
Repeat step 18 so there is a break in between each button. Put all the navigation layers into a folder.

Step 20
We are going to create the body of our website. Using the marquee tool create a box 960×970px and rest the top of the box on the bottom of our navigation bar. Hold down shift, and move it down three spaces. Put a guide on the top and bottom of the marquee.

Using the Rounded Rectangle tools, Create a box within those guides as well as the far left and right ones.

Click and drag the layer styles from the navigation box onto the website box.

Step 21
Grab a logo and bring it into your document. Line up the left side of the logo with the left guide.

Step 22
Using the marquee tool create a box 600×240px and put guides around it like we did with the navigation and the website box. Using the rectangle tool make a box on the guides we just created. Give it the same layer styles as the navigation, fill it with white and change the opacity to 20%.

Put the white box into a new folder called “Post 1”.

To add the reflection, use the Ellipse tool to create an oval on the bottom half of the box. Control and click on the circle and then do Control + Shift + I to get the inverse selection. Select the linear gradient with white to nothing selected for the color. Click and drag a gradient.

Once you get a gradient you like do Control + Shift + I and delete the extra area.

Step 23
We are going to go and grab this laptop image (http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1185958)from stock.xchng.

Open it up in Photoshop and click on your Crop Tool. Adjust the settings so it is 200×200px at 72 pixels/inch.

Bring it into our document.

Step 24
Put the photo at the top left of the post box, then holding down Shift, move the photo down twice and to the right twice.

We are also going to add some layer styles. So click on the layer styles icon and click on stroke. Change the settings like what I have, with a color of white. Now add a drop shadow.

Step 25
Now lets put in some dummy copy:

Nullam dictum felis eu pede mollis pretium. Integer tincidunt. Cras dapibus. ac, enim. Continue…

The “Etiam ultricies nisi” will be our title. Arial/Helvetica Bold at 32 pt. The rest of the copy will be Verdana at 11pt. The color of the “continue” will be #3399FF.

Step 26
Right-click on the “Post 1” folder, Duplicate Layer Set and call it “Post 2”. Put the top of the second post on the bottom of the first post and then hold down shift and move “Post 2” down two spaces.

Step 27
Repeat step 26 for the third and fourth posts. For the fourth post click on the “Post 4” folder, then click on the layer mask (second icon from the left on the layers palette). Use the marquee tool to create a box around the area of the fourth post that is on the website box. Hold down shift and move the marquee box up two spaces. Then do Control + Shift + I to get the inverse selection and fill with black.

Step 28
Now let’s make the sidebar. Using the square marquee tool make a box 300px wide and put it on the far right guide. Hold down shift and move it in two spaces. Put a guide on the left and right sides of the square marquee.

Step 29
Using the rectangle tool make a box within the guides we just made. Make sure the box lines up with the first post box at the top and it goes below the bottom of the website box at the bottom.

The sidebar box is going to be white and have the same layer styles as the post boxes.

Step 30
Click on the mask icon on the layers palette. With the square marquee tool, create a box that covers the sidebar from the very bottom of the document to the bottom of the website box. Hold down Shift and move the square marquee up two spaces. Fill the area with black. This should get rid of that extra area.

Step 31
We want to add a reflection like we have on the posts. To do this we have to duplicate the layer with Control + J and move it over above the sidebar box. Control and click on the sidebar box, then Control + Shift + I to get the inverse, and delete the extra area.

For the search bar make a white box with the square marquee tool. The size of the box is going to be 260×30px and it is going to be placed at the top left of the sidebar. Hold down shift and move it over two spaces to the left and two spaces down.

The search box is going to have the same layer styles as the sidebar box.

Using the text tool create some text that says “Search” with 16pt Verdana and a color of #CCCCCC.

Step 32
Now we are going to put in some ads. These ads are 125×125 and are going to go two spaces down, holding Shift and two spaces from the edges.

The bottom two are going to be Shift and down one space from the bottom of the top ads.

While you are at it put a guide on the left and right sides of the ads.

Step 33
Click on the Rectangle Tool and in the options, click on the down arrow to the right of all the different shapes. Click on fixed size, and change it to 260×30px. Put the rectangle so the top is touching the bottom of the ads, and holding down shift move down two spaces.

Change the color to white, at 20% opacity

Step 34
Now to get the reflection, Control and click on the rectangle we just made. Push Control + Shift + N to get a new layer. Now click on the square marquee tool and move our selected area up so the bottom is at the middle of the rectangle.

Fill with a white to nothing linear gradient.

Step 35
Type in “Related Links” with the font, Myriad Pro Black, and a size of 16 pt.

We are going to give it a slight background shadow to make it stand out a little better.

Step 36
For the links we are just going to use the generic Wordpress links:

Development Blog Documentation Plugins Suggest Ideas Support Forum Themes Web Hosting WordPress Planet Wordpress Themes
The text is going to be white 12pt Verdana. We are going to hold Shift and move it in two and down one from the “Related Links” head.

Step 37
To get the arrow bullets, select the custom shape tool (same button in the toolbar as the rectangle tool) and choose the same arrow I did.

Change the color to #3399FF and add a Bevel and Emboss from the layer styles icon.

Step 38
Repeat steps 37 and 38 except our header is going to be “Categories” and for our mock up we will just put:

Category Number One Category Number Two Category Number Three Category Number Four

Step 39
Repeat steps 37 and 38 except our header is going to be “Archives” and for our mock up we will just put:
March 2009 April 2009 May 2009 June 2009 July 2009

Step 40
We want to add a blue glow on the website box like we have on the navigation bar. To do this Control and click on the website box and create a new layer with Control + Shift + N.

Using the linear gradient click and drag a #3399FF gradient from the top down.

Step 41
Finally we will put in our footer information. Hold down shift and move the footer text down two spaces.

Final

Here is the final version. The great part about working with a transparent website is that you can change the background image to completely change the look of your website.

It's on a nice big canvas so it can serve as the desktop background on my laptop for the next week or so! click to see the full 1920px x 1200px size.

Part 1—The Background

So create a new document in Photoshop at 1920px wide x 1200px high, and with the Gradient Tool (G), draw in a radial gradient of browns (#5c3d09 to #1f1409) so you get something like what is shown below.

Notice that the gradient is not centered vertically but sits toward the top. In this image we want the top of the text to be on fire, so the top part of the image should be a bit more lit up.

Step 2

As in the grass text tutorial, once again we're going to have a textured background. But rather than starting from scratch, I just copied the background from the previous tutorial, merged all the layers and desaturated to get what you see below.

If you need to make this from scratch, first visit Bittbox to get the original paper textures and then follow the previous tutorial's steps.

Step 3

Now we set the layer to Overlay and to blend the texture into the background and voila!

Step 4

Just to add a bit more texture though, let's run the Texturizer filter. To do this, create a new layer and fill it with a brown/beige color—#66500f. Then go to Filter > Texture > Texturizer and use the Canvas texture with 80% Scaling and Relief set to 4.

Step 5

Once you have your texturized layer, set that to Overlay. This adds some extra fine detail to our texture which is good because we're working on such a big canvas.

Step 6

Next we're going to apply a layer to slightly desaturate the bottom half of the image. This is so that the top looks like it has a warmer glow where the flames are, while the bottom looks a little colder.

So create a new layer and fill it with the color #4b4f3b. Then add a layer mask with a gradient to mask out the top and fade down (so you get the effect shown).

Now set the layer to Color and 45% Opacity.

Part 2—Text + Glow = Awesomeness

OK, we now have a nice background! So let's add some text. I've used the font Trajan because it's a really dramatic looking font. Here I've placed the text in the color #cb9328, then set it to Linear Dodge (Add) with an Opacity of 8%.

What we're going to be doing with our text is making it look like the top half of the text is coming out of the background and is red hot with flames flickering off. This means we're going to run a lot of effects and apply layer masks to them so that only the top half shows while the bottom half reverts to faded out text like we have currently.

Step 8

So first create a new layer group to put all the text layers in—because there will be a lot of them.

Then duplicate the text layer and set the color of the duplicate text to #5e3f1c.

Step 9

Now set the newest text layer to Overlay and 70% Opacity. It should look kind of reddish (as shown below).

Step 10

Now duplicate the text again and set the latest duplicate to a yellowish color—#cb9328. Then set this to Linear Dodge (Add) and Opacity 30%.

Next we add a layer mask and draw a gradient so the latest text layer fades out as shown below, and beneath you can see the reddish colored combination of the bottom two text layers.

Step 11

Next we duplicate the text layer yet again, but put this layer right on the bottom. Set the color to black—#000000. Then go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and it will ask you to rasterize the text, click yes to that, and then set the Radius to about 4px.

Then Ctrl-click any of the other text layers and go back to the black layer and hit delete so you are just left with a sort of shadow. Then duplicate this layer and merge it with the first so the effect is heavier. You should have something that looks like the screenshot below.

Step 12

Once again, add a layer mask so the shadow quickly fades out as shown. This makes it look like the text is coming out of the page.

Step 13

Now duplicate our black layer again and using the Smudge Tool (R) and a largish soft brush you want to just smudge the shadow around so it looks like burn marks.

Step 14

Here's how our text is looking now. I actually created two sets of "burn" marks, and then four sets of the shadow layer each blurred a little more than the last and each faded back.

Step 15

Now it's time to make the top part of our text glow. So first of all, duplicate the text layer again and place this layer at the very top and set it to a yellow color—#dc9a08.

Then run a Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur over it with Radius of 8px. Then grab a large soft eraser brush and just erase away parts at the bottom so it's kind of uneven.

Step 16

Set our first glow layer to Soft Light. You might want to repeat the process, erasing even more so the top part is even glowier.

Step 17

Now duplicate the text layer yet again and place this at the very top. This one should be again the same yellow (#dc9a08).

Then go to Layer > Rasterize > Type and turn the text into a flat graphic. Then Ctrl-click the layer and go to Select > Modify > Contract and use a value of 1px. Then press Delete to delete everything except that 1px outline.

Step 18

Now set the 1px layer to Overlay, and you should have something like the image below.

Step 19

Now to our 1px glow add a layer mask to fade it out down the bottom as we've been doing with the other layers.

Then duplicate the layer, and run a Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur set to 1px. Then duplicate this layer again and blur it by 2px. Then duplicate the layer again and blur it by 4px.

Then Ctrl-click any of the text layers, press Ctrl+Shift+I to inverse the selection and go through each of the glow layers and press Delete to remove any of the blur that has strayed out of the boundary of the text.

The idea is that we want the edges of the text to look red-hot with it fading in to an overall hot glow on the text.

Step 20

Next we duplicate all four of the glow layers and merge them together. This should result in a layer on top which is the original bright yellow.

Grab the Smudge Tool and run over the text, smudging it up to look like heat waves coming off the text, as shown.

Step 21

Now set this latest layer to Overlay and you should have something looking like this!

Step 22

Now we've pretty much finished our text. I went through and duplicated some of the glow layers to make it look even more fiery. Feel free to experiment with getting a real red-hot glow look by doing so.

Step 23

Next, in keeping with the last wallpaper, I've gone and added a quote underneath my main text. This provides a nice embellishment to the page. Try to use colors that fit in with the background and text layer so it doesn't stand out too much, because we really want this to be a secondary element to the main text. I've used Swiss Light Condensed as my font and laid it out just like in the previous Grass Text tutorial.

Part 3—The Flames

Finally, with all our preparation done, it's time to add the actual flames! For this, we need some images of fire set against a plain black background. A good photo is hard to find, and try as I did, I couldn't find a really great free photo. So in the end I used this photo from Fotolia which you can purchase using the link below. There was also an OK photo from Flickr which I've also linked to and which I ended up using later for the "E". So you might want to grab that too.

AcheroN—Fotolia.com
Peasap—Flickr.com

Now the technique for copying the flames over is actually really simple. I actually only learned this technique recently when reading one of Nik Ainley's tutorials for DigitalArts magazine called Create Amazing Photomontages where he did it with water.

What you need to do is:

Open up the flame image in Photoshop

Go to the Channels tab and find the channel with the highest contrast, which for images of fire should be the Red Channel, and click on it

This will make your image appear black and white, and because we're on the highest contrast layer, it will seem really bright white. Now Ctrl-click this channel and it will select all the pixels in that channel.

Click back to the RGB channel and copy the selected pixels

You can now paste the flames into your main canvas!

This is actually a really, really useful technique for copying something translucent like fire off a flat background. And as you'll see by visiting Nik's tutorial, it's also great for copying water!

Step 25

OK, so here we've pasted the flames on to our main canvas. (For clarity I've also temporarily switched off the text layers). As you can see, we've got the fire without the black background and it's partially transparent, which means it'll look super on top of our text.

Step 26

Now the next thing to do is to cut up our one bit of fire into a few pieces. Just duplicate the layer and switch off one as a backup first. Then using the Pen Tool, cut up the fire so you work with the contours of the flame so it looks natural. Here you can see I've produced four pieces of flame from the one image. You can also try flipping bits around to make them seem more random.

Set the layers to Screen mode so that any remaining black parts are totally gone, and it's even more transparent.

Step 27

Now because my text is just four letters, I need four separate pieces of fire. For the fourth one (on top of the E) I actually grabbed that Flickr photo and repeated the same process as earlier to create another flame. Also the fire on the letter I has been squashed a little as well to make it look more random.

Step 28

Applying the fire is really as easy as moving the flames over the text. You want to try to match the flames to the shape of the letter so it looks like they are dancing off the letters.

Step 29

OK here I've placed all four bits of flame over the top. It's not bad, but you can see that the I and the R have the same flame and also all the flames aren't very tall.

Step 30

So here I've gone through each flame and using the Transform Tool stretched them vertically. Also I used a bit of judicious erasing to make the flame on the I look a little more unique.

Step 31

Now to make them look even more lit up, duplicate each flame layer, run a Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur with a Radius of 3px and set the layer to 15% Opacity so it provides a bit of glow around the edges of the flames.

Step 32

So we're pretty much there! This is how the composition looks.

Step 33

Finally we'll add a last highlight. So create a new layer above all the others and draw in a white to black radial gradient as shown. Set this layer to Overlay and 40% Opacity.

Finished!

And there we have it, a text on fire effect! In the next tutorial in the series, we'll be producing the Air image, however it'll be in two weeks, not one—as I'm taking a few days off work!

If you're interested in creating flames from scratch in Photoshop, you might also like to check out this classic tutorial that coincidentally uses the exact same typeface! It's a Photoshop 6 tutorial, and I can still remember reading it like a half decade ago, but it's still very relevant, even if the screenshots feature a super retro Mac interface.

In this Photoshop tutorial, you will learn how to create a glowing text effects form a scratch.

Result:

Let’s create a new file (File>New) of 1920×1200px/72 dpi. Using the Paint Bucket Tool (G), give the new background layer black color.

On a new layer (Create new layer) we’ll apply a standard brush to represent a spot on the central part of the picture. The brush’s color is #007EC7

Select the next option for the layer containing the spot: Fitler>Distort>ZigZag

The layer’s parameters:
Fill 54%

Next we’ll choose the Rectangle Tool (U) to represent three white lines which must be turned over with Free Transform option.

Those three layers with the white lines must be combined in a group (press Ctrl button to mark out the lines’ layers and hold on the left mouse’s button while moving the marked layers on Create a new group selection).

Mark out the group now and then press CTRL+E. On the rasterized layer we’ll apply the next option: Fitler>Distort>Wave

On the same layer we need to apply also Filter>Blur>Gaussian blur

Set the next parameters for the layer by clicking on the same layer on the layers’ panel:
Blending mode-Overlay
Fill 44%
Blending Options>Drop Shadow

Blending Options>Outer Glow

Make a copy of the recently made layer and choose Free Transform option to turn over the copy the same way demonstrated on the picture.

Now we need to represent a new layer (Create new layer), applying here a standard brush to paint the new layer in two colors (on the top part we’ll choose the green color, on the bottom – the blue one) (Opacity 10%).

On the next new layer we’ll apply again the standard brush of white color and Opacity of 30%

The layer’s parameters:
Blending mode-Overlay

For the next stage we need the Adobe Illustrator. Using the Pen Tool (P), represent two lines of black color.

Start working by creating a new file (File>New) of 1920×1200px/72dpi. Select after that the Paint Bucket Tool (G) to fill the new layer with black color.

Apply next the Rectangle Tool (U) to represent several rectangles on the bottom part of the file. Firstly we’ll draw just one, then make six copies of it and finally choose Free Transform option to situate the copies the same way as on the picture below. The color chosen for them is #B66F22

Combine all the rectangles in a single group (hold on Ctrl button to mark out the corresponding layers and then press the left mouse’s button when moving the marked layers on Create a new group option).
Select the group and then press CTRL+E. Select after that on the rasterized layer the solution from here: Filter>Blur>Motion Blur

Make a copy of the layer with the blurred rectangles. Place the copy the way from below by applying Free Transform option for this operation.

Put together both layers (press Ctrl button, mark out the layers and finally press CTRL+E).
Set the next indicated parameters on the layer we’ve got: Fill 41%

Next we’ll draw several lines on the picture. For the beginning draw their paths with the Pen Tool (P) (Path mode)

Next we’ll represent new layer (Create new layer) where we should apply a standard brush of white color (Diameter 2, Hardness 100%). Using the Direct Selection Tool (A), mark out the line and then change the tool with the Pen Tool (P) and make a right click on the marked line to select Stroke Path (Brush mode). This is what we have to do with each of the lines.

Each layer of those 5 lines should be copied several times, changing by turn the Fill parameter. One copy should have Fill - 100%, the next one – 50% and so on, creating the volume effect. Place the copies’ layers on the file the way from below:

Creating lot of copies of each line needs after that to be placed in a group (press Ctrl button when marking the appropriate layers and then hold on the left mouse’s button while taking the marked layers on Create a new group option). Do the same operations with the rest of the lines.

Next we’ll make two copies of the third line’s group.

Using the Free Transform option, it’s possible to turn over the copies the same way demonstrated below:

Click on the bottom part of the layers’ panel on each group containing by one line’s copies on Add a Mask selection and choose a standard brush of black color to erase the ends of the lines

Put together all the lines’ groups to have a rasterized layer (press Ctrl button, mark out the necessary layers and finally press CTRL+E). Next we’ll make a copy of the rasterized layer, applying on it Filter>Blur>Gaussian blur

Tutorial goal:
In this tutorial I will explain how to slim this woman's face down and apply some make-up. We will also improve the smoothness of her skin and work on her eyebrows.

This tutorial is made for photoshop CS4. Thanks to harrykeely for the model's stock.

Step 1

For a start we must have in mind what are the main appealing characteristics on a male or female. In this case (i'll be working on a female model) elements like the eyes, eyebrows, nose and lips are essential to work on.

As you can see the girl in this stock is a little overweight, her nose is a bit large, her eyebrows have a line format, her smile is a little too opened and she has some irregularities on her skin . So let's start by working on all these anti-appealing factors.

Step 2

We have to pick one element to work at a time, I've chosen the eyes and the eyebrows.

To better transform any of the elements stated before, i advice using the ”Liquidify” tool (filter>liquify).

After going on the liquify tool, use the "zoom tool" or click on Z, maximize the image still you can perfectly see all the details on our currently two focusing points. Around 100%-200% should work fine.

Step 3

Switch to the first tool now, "Foward Warp Tool" (W) and set your brush size to around 30-70, the brush density to 20 and the brush pressure to 30.

The eyebrow looks a little large, so I'll begin by making it thinner. To create this effect use this tool and move it to the directions stated on the picture below. The movements are up-down direction at the top and down-up at the bottom.
At the end of the eyebrow make it a little longer but thinner.

Step 4

Once the eyebrow is thinner, i'll give it a more dynamic format. Using the same tool and sizes create a little curve at the end of the eyebrow and make the whole eyebrow in a soft diagonal format, don't be dramatic.

Step 5

Alright the right eyebrow is done. The left eyebrow is cut, so all you should do using the "Foward Warp Tool" is make it a little thinner and longer at the start , to match the right one.

Compare the old eyebrows and the new ones:

Step 6

It's the eyes turn now. Go to the liquify mode again and let's start editing it. The main goal here is to make the eyes smaller vertically and larger horizontally and to turn them a little bigger overall. Maximize to 66% and once again, using the W tool and a brush size of around 50-100, use a lower one for the eye line on the top.
Note that the line around her eye (on top) has to be decreased, check the image below for more details on the moves.

Once you've done this, use the "Bloat Tool" (B) on the liquify, increase the brush size to around 250 and the and the brush rate to 30, click 2-3 times on the spots below.

Step 7

You can do this to the left eye, all you have to do is to make it a little bigger at the left side.

Now let's focus on her skin, for the black and irregular spots let's remove them with the "Clone Stamp Tool" (S). The brush size will depend on the spot we want to cover.
For the wrinkles i'll use the "Blur Tool" with a strength of 55%.

Check the image below to know the critical areas.

Step 8

Nose's turn - back to the liquify mode.
We want to make it smaller and thinner, maximize to 100% and use the W tool with a brush size around 100-150 for the bottom and 30-70 for the top.

While you modify her nose you'll notice the smile lines will look weird so let's make them smaller as well.
Use the Pucker Tool (S) and use it on some parts (below) with a brush size of 180 and a brush rate of 30.

Look below for more instructions on the moves.

Step 9

Let's work on her face, make it thinner. Use the liquify and the W tool with a large brush size (300-400) and use it around her face.

Once you make her face a little thinner, her head will look too big so you need to make it a little smaller too. The same thing about her chest, cover it more with the blouse.

Step 10

Only one element left, the mouth! The mouth is not so bad so all we have to do is to make it a little smaller. Liquify > W tool, brush size of 100-150.

Step 11

You can do some personal adjust... i did some, made her head a little smaller, her shoulder more inclined.

Now let's start with the adjustments.

Making her teeth more white:
- Create a new layer and paint the teeth zone with a soft white (0% hardness) brush. Then set the layer mode to Soft Light and opacity to 45%.

Her eye balls:
- In a new layer, paint her eye balls with a light yellow (soft brush), then make it's mode to Overlay and opacity to 20%.

Eye make-up:
- In a new layer and a soft brush paint a thin like around the bottom of her eyes. Then go on Filter>Blur>Gaussian blur and add 15%. Then set the layer opacity to 65% and to the Soft Light.
- In a new layer paint her skin on the top of the eyes with a light blue, gaussian blur it (25%) and then set it to Overlay and 100% opacity.

Step 12

More adjustments... curves and a filter (check below).

Then select her face less the eyes, nose and mouth in the quick mask mode, then go to gaussian blur and add 3%.

Step 13

Select the burn tool with an exposure of 25% and shadows mode and add some to the eye balls and the lips, then select the dodge tool in the midtones mode and add some at the white part of the eyes.

This is what we got so far:

Step 14

Now right click on one of the layers and click on "merge visible" then duplicate the layer, go to gaussian blur and add 30%, then set this layer mode to soft light .
With the Eraser Tool at 75% clean the eyes and mouth part and some shadows like the face's line.

Final touches, i added more color and some more blue, color balance and vibrance (check below). Also used the sponge tool (saturate) to give more color to some areas like the lips and the eyes.

Step 15

And here's the final result:

Put a horizontal guide at 20 pixels from the top and a vertical guide at 4.5 inches (the vertical center of the canvas). (“View” > “New Guide”)

Step 3

Make sure you have “snap to guides” and “snap to document bounds” turned on.

Step 4

Create a new layer on top of the “background” layer and name it “frame”.

Set your foreground color to black (#000000).

Click on the “Rounded Rectangle Tool” and set its radius to 8 px. Also, click on the “Geometry Options” dropdown menu, choose “Fixed Size” and key in “630 px” for the width (W) and “390 px” for the height (H).

Step 5

With the “frame” layer active, click and hold the mouse button on the canvas and move the pointer until you can see the entire shape inside the boundaries of your canvas. Release the mouse button to create the shape. (If you click and release the mouse button with some parts of your rounded rectangle going off the edges of the canvas, the shape will not be filled/rendered in its entirety.)

Step 6

Move the rounded rectangle until its top edge snaps to the top guide and its center snaps to the vertical guide.

Step 7

With the “frame” layer still active, drag a horizontal guide and let it snap to the center of the black rounded rectangle and another to the bottom. Also, drag vertical guides and let them snap to the rounded rectangle’s left and right edges.

In addition to those guides, put a horizontal guide at 430 pixels down from the top of the canvas. (“View” > “New Guide”)

Step 8

Now, we are going to make the lower edge of the rounded rectangle bulge down a bit. There are numerous ways to accomplish this.

For CS2 and CS3 users, you can do “Edit” > “Transform” > “Warp”

Step 9

Align the mouse pointer to the vertical guide (at the center of the canvas) very near the bottom edge of the rounded rectangle and click and drag until it touches the horizontal guide below.

Step 10

For all others, you can use the “Elliptical Marquee Tool”.

Make an elliptical selection similar to the one shown below. Please note that the elliptical selection is exactly as wide as the rounded rectangle. It should also be tall enough that its horizontal center is situated slightly above the bottom of the rounded rectangle with the bottom of the selection touching the guide below the bottom edge of the rounded rectangle.

Step 11

So as not to leave any void spaces when you fill the selection, create a new layer on top of the “frame” layer and fill the selection with black on that layer. Deselect afterwards.

To keep things clean, go back to the “frame” layer. Using the “Eraser Tool”, erase the parts of the lower corners of the rounded rectangle extending beyond and below the boundaries of the ellipse you have just created (that is if there are any).

Note: There’s a very slight difference between the before and after screens above, but if you’d take a really close look, I’m sure you’ll be able to see the difference.

Lets begin this tutorial by creating a new document in photo shop.

File > New >
width: 581 pixels
Height: 297
Resolution: 72

Click O.k.

Step 2

With the new document created, make sure you have "Layer 1" selected and color it black with the paint bucket tool. This will be our background.

Black #000000

Step 3

Create the text you wish to use.

Font: Arial
Size: 125.28
Color: White but it's not necessary the giant text is a guideline.

Step 4

we need to spread the text apart a bit, so when we add the outline text they won't be nocking into one another.

go to
Window tab> Character

This will bring your character font properties up

(or click on the text tool then find the icon in the tool bar panal up top that looks like a menu tab like shown in the image)

Look for what looks to be horizontal arrows, we need to adjust the horizontal AV to 100.

Step 5

Now with the text layer you created, we need to convert this into a shape. Converting it to a shape will create a work path which will be needed for the text to guide along it.

Right click on your text layer >Convert to shape

Step 6

I wanted to show you here what the work path looks like when it's activated with in the layer panel.

On the left side the work path is disabled but the layer is still selected

Right side of the layer panel shows it activated
Click on the vector thumbnail with in the text shape layer to activate the work path. You will see an outline around the vector thumbnail appear, and as well around the text shape in your document.

Step 7

Since it's not a simple shape, and all the outlines are not connected each piece will need to be worked on separately.
You will need to activate the vector thumbnail to work on each outline, so it's best to work from the inside of the text then the outside.

Now that we have our shape path activated, hover your text tool over the inside of the D outline, wait till you see a T with a wavy symbol that is your text path type tool. Go ahead and click and start typing, your text should start flowing along the inner part of your D

Click on the vector thumbnail again and hover your text type tool over the inner part of the g and again wait for the text path type tool symbol to appear, click and type and watch your text flow along the inner part of your g.

Click on the vector thumbnail again and hover your text type tool over the inner part of the a and again wait for the text path type tool symbol to appear, click and type and watch your text flow along the inner part of your a.

Step 8

this is the result you should have from step 7

Step 9

Now lets work on the outer part, remember each outline needs to be separately activated before you work on them.

Hover your text type tool over the D outside outline and wait for the text path type tool to appear. Click, and begin typing.

Step 10

Results from step 9

Again reactivate the vector thumbnail to work on the next letter and wait for the text path type tool to appear.

Step 11

This is the result you should have after doing steps 9 & 10

Step 12

Go to your layers panel, and hide the text layer. We don't need it anymore, it was just a guide for us to use for our text to flow along it.

Look for your text shape and click on the eye to disable it, or just trash it.

Step 13

Select all your new text layers > Right click and duplicate, then merge together by right clicking and then go down to "Merge Layers"

this will be our extra effect

Step 14

With the merged layer selected

go to
